Good morning! Today's email includes... The latest "Ask Me Anything" episode - how to "portfolio-tize" your various accounts. We all know stocks beat bonds...but only over the long run. What kind of timelines are we actually talking about?
How to "Portfolio-tize" Your Various Different Accounts? You've got a 401(k), an old IRA, a Joint Taxable account with your spouse...oh, and all their retirement accounts too. How do you create one cohesive portfolio? How do you "portfolio-tize" these various accounts? We dive into this vary question (and two more great retirement questions) in Episode 142 of Personal Finance for Long-Term Investors
Stocks to Beat Bonds...Over What Timeline?Stocks outperform bonds. It’s plain to see. But that truth only becomes clear in the long run. Stocks can be volatile; short-term Treasury bonds are stable. Thus, stocks can woefully underperform Treasuries over short periods. If you're planning retirement - and you NEED certain amounts of money each year - it's important to understand which timelines are meant for bonds and which are meant for stocks (and, for that matter, any other asset you're interested in investing in)
